Although it's the second largest Greek island, Evia is one of Greece's best kept secrets. It's not commercialised like some of the other islands but it has everything the other popular Greek islands have, by way of beauty & history, and lots more!

The south of Evia has been described by a travel writer as ‘shockingly beautiful’. It encompasses the narrowest part of the island and, at one point, you can stand and gaze over the Aegean Sea to the East and the Gulf of Evia to the West. Its colourful history dates back centuries and it was even mentioned in Homer’s Iliad. It is an area of mountains, valleys and streams with abundant wildlife and varied trees and plants.

There are fantastic walks through picturesque gorges and deserted hills, where the only person you are likely to meet is a shepherd tending his flock. For the energetic, the full range of water sports, horse riding, climbing and mountain biking are available, and there’s even enough snow in places to ski during the winter. If relaxation is what you need, during the cold & bleak winters here in Australia, then why not escape to the Mediterranean summer enjoyed in Evia, at the time, where there is a staggering choice of un-crowded beaches with beautiful, aquamarine seas.

Another great advantage is that Evia is one of the most accessible Greek islands, all year round, thanks to a road bridge from the mainland. There are also 4 ferry crossings [including one directly to Panagia during the summer] all of which can get you from Athens airport to Southern Evia within 2 hours.

There's even a small, established English speaking community in Southern Evia.
